When to decon the paint?????

The best way to tell if your vehicle's surface needs decontamination is by touching the paint. But sometimes you can touch it and not feel much porosity. This is normal because there's almost certainly not much contamination. To be able to touch and feel it, you'll need to use a plastic bag, like a regular plastic bag; a ziplock bag is an example. The bag amplifies the sensation of touch. This way, you can determine if the paint needs decontamination.

Sometimes it's only necessary to decontaminate certain areas of the car that receive the most contamination. You can then decide whether to use only chemicals, modeling clay, or a combination of both methods.

It's very important to know that using clay can mark the surface, and you'll need to polish it afterwards to remove any marks caused by the clay. In many cases, simply using the chemical method is sufficient, especially if you do it more frequently. By chemical, I mean using a tar remover (likeTarX ) and an iron particle remover like IronX . Since this method doesn't cause much friction on the surface, it reduces the chance of marking the paint.
